TOO_LARGE

The document is over 10 MB, the most Onto will read.

Code · HTTP status · Retryable?
TOO_LARGE[413][No]

What this means

[02]

Onto reads at most 10 MB per document. It checks the `Content-Length` header first, then counts bytes as they arrive and stops once the limit is passed. A page that declares a small compressed size can still hit the limit once it's unpacked. Failed requests are refunded.

When you'll see it

[03]

HTTP 413. Body always includes code: "TOO_LARGE". Branch on code, never on the human-readable message — wording can change without notice; the code is the stable contract.

Example response

[04]
example response[json]
{
  "status": "error",
  "code": "TOO_LARGE",
  "message": "Document exceeds the read limit; Onto reads up to 10MB"
}

How to handle

[05]

Don't retry the same URL; it will be the same size next time. Look for a smaller version of the content, like a single page instead of the whole document.

Suggested handling in a Node client:

if (data.code === 'TOO_LARGE') {
  // Over 10 MB. The same URL will fail again — skip it.
  return null;
}
Code · Status · What it means

The URL returned something Onto can't read as a document, like an image, video or archive.

IMAGE_PDF[HTTP 422]

The URL is a scanned PDF with no text layer, so there's no text to extract.
