Introduction\[01\]

## Get an agent reading the web properly

Onto turns any page into clean Markdown with a score for how trustworthy that text is — and turns your own site into something agents can read without parsing your markup. Pick a path below; the quickest takes about thirty seconds.

### Start here

\[02\]

Install in

![](/integrations/claude-code.png)Claude Code

One command

$ claude mcp add --scope user --transport http onto https://api.buildonto.dev/mcp

Copy command[Docs →](https://docs.buildonto.dev/mcp/claude-code)

1. Run it in a terminal. Claude Code asks you to approve Onto on first use.
2. Then ask Claude Code to “read example.com with onto”.

#### Try it in Claude Code

Paste this into a new chat. Markdown back means the install worked.

Read https://example.com with onto and show me the Markdown.

Copy the ask

#### Sign in for a key

For direct API calls and the npx and config-file installs. The URL and command installs don't need one.

#### Or call the API, no client

One POST from any terminal. Markdown comes back.

curl -X POST https://api.buildonto.dev/v1/read \\
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ONTO\_API\_KEY" \\
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \\
  -d '{"url": "https://example.com"}'

Copy first call

Or start from the job you are doing

[Give an agent the webread\_and\_score in a tool loop, and what to do when a page scores badly.](/guides/agent-web)[Index a whole documentation sitemap → batch → store, including the two caps that silently truncate you.](/guides/knowledge-base)[Audit a site for agent readabilityScore every page, rank the worst, and fix in the order that moves the most.](/guides/audit-a-site)

### Use the harness you already run

$ claude mcp add --scope user --transport http onto https://api.buildonto.dev/mcp

Copy command[Docs →](https://docs.buildonto.dev/mcp/claude-code)

1. Run it in a terminal. Claude Code asks you to approve Onto on first use.
2. Then ask Claude Code to “read example.com with onto”.

Copy as Markdown[](/index.md "Open the raw Markdown")
